The immaculate hidden lake reserves its waterbody at the elevation of 2,990 meters and spreads over 10.8 square kilometers. The most tranquil and serene oval-shaped lake offers a great variety of floras and faunas around it. The lake and its surroundings are famous for the Himalayan endangered species of plants and animals. This Rara National Park Tour starts from Kathmandu. There will be night halts at few places en route before reaching Rara Lake. On the first day, we will hit the road from Kathmandu towards west on Prithvi Highway, then on to E-W (East-West) Highway and finally through off-road. Our first stay will be at Surkhet, then at Kalikot on the second. Leaving Kalikot, our vehicle passes through Nagma and Sinja to reach Talcha on the third day. From Talcha, we will be hiking towards the lake, as there is no vehicle road accessibility. We will walk through the beautiful forest beside the lake for a few hours and arrive at our heavenly destination. Rara lake is truly heaven! Rejoice to the fullest at this hidden gift of nature. The pristine lake and the surroundings are so breathtaking that it won’t take even a moment to fade one’s fatigue away. Besides, there is a place called Murma (3300m) uphill adjacent to the lake where one can hike up for more adventure. Hiking to Murma takes just about 4 hours in total- up & down but Murma Top at 3800m takes almost 5 hours round trip. In the morning, one can spend the time at the lake boating around and enjoying the view of this deific destination. There is a horse/pony ride facility as well, which adds quite an adventure to the tour. We will spend one full day here. Our return will be the same route and checkpoints, Kalikot and Surkhet with two more-night halts there and finally trace back the same route to Kathmandu.
The major highlights of the Rara Tour are the blissful serene Rara Lake at this high altitude. Hike to Murma can be another adventure to get the full panorama of Rara Lake, villages and forests. Boating at Rara and village and jungle walk or horse riding gives another opportunity to get acquainted with the region. The overall tour in itself is one of a kind.
This journey to Rara Lake can be alleviated by traveling via air from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj and another flight to Talcha 4 km east of the Rara Lake and return via the same air routes. For a visit to Rara Lake, the month or the optimal time of the year is April, May, September, and October. The rainy season brings plenty of landslides and slippery roads along with the route and winter seasons bring pretty cold air with loads of snow over the track and the lake.
